If your goals live only in your head, they’re going to feel heavy, blurry, and easy to delay. I’m Greg Hunt, and I’m walking you through a simple practice that turns big dreams into clear, doable steps: draw it out. Not fancy. Not artistic. Just honest words on paper that give your mind something real to build.
We dig into why most goals never happen, and it’s not because people lack talent. It’s because the goal is too vague to act on. I share three questions a mentor gave me that instantly sharpen your focus: what do you want, when do you want it by, and what are you willing to give up temporarily to get it. From there, we talk about why your brain isn’t meant to store goals, it’s meant to solve problems and how writing down goals helps you slow your thinking, make the invisible visible, and create ownership.
Then we start where most people skip: dreaming. I give you prompts to map what you actually want if fear wasn’t a factor, if money wasn’t an issue, and if you trusted yourself fully. After that, we turn dreams into practical goal setting with simple timelines, the next right step, one supporting habit, and one thing to stop doing. We close with a guided visualization of your future self, because earned progress leaves clues, and that future version of you can give you instructions for what to do today. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs clarity, and leave a review with the one goal you’re ready to put on paper.

Why Goals Stay Unfinished
SPEAKER_00Welcome, welcome, welcome to Plain the Mind, not the Brand Podcast. And this is your host, Greg Hunt. And I have a great topic to talk to y'all guys today. But before we get started, please, please share, like, and comment and follow. If you hear anything today that you like, put it in the comment. We would love to hear your feedback, what you like about this talk, and then some of your takeaways and what you glean from this talk. So with that being said, let's jump into this. Today we're going to talk about something we all think about, but not all of us actually do. And that's drawing out our goals, our dreams, our plans, and even our future. Now we all have ideas in our heads, things we say to ourselves, things we say that we want, for example, like a better career, more family time, better health, peace, purpose.
SPEAKER_01But here's the truth.
Three Questions That Create Clarity
The Power Of Writing It Down
SPEAKER_00If it stays in your head, it stays unfinished. Now, today it's not about motivation hype, motivation talk. It's about clarity, it's about intentions. And it's about taking what's inside of us and you and putting it somewhere you can actually see it grow. Because when we see it, you can start to move towards it. You start to build faith and confidence. Now, why most goals never happen, it's not because most people are not talented or they lack talent. They fail because their goals are too vague. They might say things like, I want to be successful, I want to do better, I want more. But more of what? By when? And why? One of the things I learned from my mentor when it comes to achieving your goals, he said, Greg, you gotta ask yourself three things when you want to achieve success. Those three things you have to ask yourself is what do you want? Obviously, you gotta know what you want. Number two is when do you want it by? You gotta have a timeline date when you want it. And I think the third one is the most important one. He said, What are you willing to give up temporarily to get it? And what he means by that, are you willing to give up some of your TV time to achieve your goals? Are you willing to give up some of your playing video games to achieve your goals? Are you willing to give up going to the bars on the weekend to achieve your goals? So I would I would highly recommend that you write those down. Write those three questions down when it when it comes to achieving your goals. What do you want? When do you want it by, and what are you willing to give up temporarily to get it? Because goals without clarity is just a wish, in my opinion. And here's another hard truth. Our brains, your brain, is not meant to store goals. It is meant to solve problems. When everything lives in your head, it could feel overwhelming, it could feel confusing, it could feel heavy on you. And that's why writing and drawing things out isn't busy work. For some people, it's a survival skill. So let's talk about the power of drawing it out. Now, when I talk about drawing it out, I don't mean you have to be an artist like Bob Ross or Picasso. I'm talking about just writing it down on a piece of paper, mapping it out, sketching out ideas, creating timelines, just brain dumping without judgment. Because when you do these things, in my opinion, three things happen for you. One, you slow your thinking down. Instead of racing thoughts going through your head, you're actually forced to focus on what you're working on and what you and what you want to accomplish. Number two, you make the invisible visible. And what I mean by that, what may feel big and scary now has a shape to it. You can kind of see it coming together. You gotta think about this as well. Everything that was big once was small, even you. And then the third thing, which I think is the most important thing, you create ownership. Once it's on paper, it's real. And real things demand action. Think about it like this: every building, every business, every moment and time started with something drawn down or drawn out.
SPEAKER_01And your future deserves the same respect.
Dream First Without Fear
SPEAKER_00So let's do this. Let's start with dreams, not plans. We're gonna just start with dreams. Because most people start with plans, but in my opinion, plans without dreams, they just turn into chores. So what I want you to do is ask yourself a couple of questions. We're just talking about dreaming. We're gonna ask yourself a couple of questions when it comes to dreaming. So the first question I want you to ask yourself Say if fear wasn't a factor, what would you want? For example, you might say fear wasn't a factor. I would like to start my own leadership and personal development organization where you speak, coach, and say mentor people to help them reach their potential. You may want to travel to different cities, giving talks and building programs that help others turn their goals into action. That might be something if you're saying fear, if fear wasn't a factor. Let's continue to dream. Ask yourself this. If money wasn't an issue, what would life look like if money wasn't an issue? For example, you might say if money wasn't an issue, my life would include spending more time with family, mentoring youth, maybe coaching football, creating programs that help people grow personally and professionally. You know, you might want to invest your time in things that create impact rather than just focusing on earning a paycheck. Dream. What are your dreams? Here's another question. I just want you to dream here.
SPEAKER_01If you trust yourself fully, where would you go after?
Turn Dreams Into Real Goals
Visualize Your Future Self
SPEAKER_00For example, if you say you trust yourself fully, you might consider going after bigger opportunities to lead things, to lead projects. Maybe it's to speak publicly, build initiatives that inspire others. You might stop second guessing yourself and your abilities and have confidence to step in roles where you can influence and guide and empower people. I just want you to dream. Don't try to be realistic just yet. Just get things out, put it on paper. Because your mind can do one of two things. It can create or it can analyze, but it can't do both at the same time. So right now, I just want you to write freely, draw freely, dream boldly, because your dreams tell you what matters to you, and what matters should guide everything. Alright. So let's let's kind of transition a little bit. Let's kind of talk about turning those dreams into goal. And so this is the shift here because dreams are emotional, goals are intentional. And what I want you to do is say, take one dream and ask yourself these questions. What does this look like in real life? What would progress look like in six months? What would success look like in a year? So for example, if we say what would success look like in a year, the dream might be I want a better life for my family. But the goal would be I want to increase my income by X amount of dollars, improving my schedule, and be present at home. Now, did you notice the difference? One feels expiring, the other feels actionable. Your goals should be clear enough that someone else could understand them. And what I mean by that, we want to just keep it simple. We want to just keep the plan simple because here's where most people mess up. They overcomplicate the plan. We don't need a 50-step blueprint. You just need directions. Now I gave you three questions earlier where I talked about what do you want? What do you when do you want to buy and what do you what are you willing to give up to get it? But let's dig a little deeper. Let's ask yourself three more questions. One, what's the next right step? Let me give you an example. You might say, I want to get healthier. The next right step is committing to walking or working out 30 minutes a day three times a week. Second question I want you to ask yourself. What's one habit that supports my goals, my plan? And I'll give you an example. You might say, My goal is financial growth. That one habit could be I'll build and review my budget every Sunday and saving a little bit of money from each of my paycheck. That could be that habit. And then the third question I want you to ask yourself, what's one thing I need to stop doing? For example, you might say, I want to grow personally. I need to stop procrastinating when opportunities come up and start saying yes to things that stretch me. Because plans work best when they are simple, flexible, and honest. Progress beats perfection every time. A bad plan you act on is better than a perfect plan you never started. So then let's talk about a secret to success, in my opinion. I'm gonna give you a secret to success. And that is you have to visualize your future self. You have to visualize your future self. A lot of people don't know that's a secret success. You gotta visualize it. Think about it all the time. So I want you to do something that's powerful. Right now, I want you to close your eyes. Just close your eyes and pick for yourself a year from now. Not fantasy, but earned success, earned progress a year from now.
SPEAKER_01And then ask yourself this. Keep your eyes closed. How do I wake up? What habits do I have?
SPEAKER_00How do I talk to myself? It's a great book out there by I think it's Dr. Shah Helmstadler is what do I say when I talk to myself?
SPEAKER_01And then what did I stop tolerating? And then ask yourself, What would that version of me do today? Now open your eyes. Your future self just gave you instructions right now to succeed and grow. You just have to listen. You just have to listen.
The 30 Minute Challenge
SPEAKER_00So in closing, I have a call to action. I have a challenge for y'all guys. This week, you know, don't just think about your future, draw it out.
SPEAKER_01Take 30 minutes, no phone, no distractions, just write down your dreams, your goals, and your next steps. Do not need confidence to start this. You actually gain confidence by starting. Your future self isn't found. Your future isn't found. It's built. One decision, one page, and one step at a time.
SPEAKER_00Thank y'all guys for listening to this. If if this resonated with you, share this with somebody who needs clarity. Because remember, your future deserves more than it deserves.
